As I'm casually flipping through this book to get a good feel for it, page 123 grabs my undivided attention. It begins: "The aim of receiving God is to become more human, not to arrive at some transcendent state in which the difficulties of being human are not present." It continues on about the ego and about humanness. And I had just been talking with my business partner about these very two constructs!
I'm not sure the first part of the book title is relevant. Nothing except a preface on "how to use this book" is really instructional. The book is not divided into chapters or sections. And it's not a page-a-day book where you reflect on one page every day of the year.
But the illuminating passages (called seed passages) throughout this 164-page book provide you with opportunities to stop -- just for a moment -- to "Receive God." The author urges you to contemplate the passages and allow them to "work on you" in their own way. There is a calming beauty in these seed passages ~ they serve as a mirror that you look into with the reflection of God looking back at you.
Jason Shulman's unique background and training in the spiritual teachings of Judaism and Buddhism has helped him become a well-renowned teacher of spiritual awakening and personal healing. In 1991, he started A Society of Souls, a school dedicated to awakening the human spirit.
"The Instruction Manual for Receiving God" is like a love letter to your Self. Read it. Contemplate on the passages. And Receive God.
