Astrology by David Weatherly
June/July 2003
A major shift in energies comes with
the early part of June when Saturn makes a move into the sign
of Cancer. This takes place on June 3rd, and Saturn will remain
in the sign of the crab until July 17, 2005.
Many astrologers consider Saturn the
"Old Devil" or the "Great Taskmaster."
While Saturn transits can certainly be difficult and demanding,
I prefer to maintain a positive view and consider the planet
the "Great Transformer." Saturn represents both
the building and the destruction of foundations, lending strength
to solid ideas and readily destroying weak structures. This
can be the framework of a relationship, business, or even
a lifestyle. Saturn gives us exactly what we ask for and therein
lies the trick to dealing with Saturn energy. Begin building
carefully at this time, and you will find inner strength that
you were not aware you had.
Cancer represents the home, family, and
the ideals of motherhood. This Saturn movement brings a new
focus to traditional morals and values. The natal chart of
the United States has a Cancer sun, so this transit will affect
the entire nation. We can expect more focus to be placed on
domestic issues with an increasing sense of "taking care
of our own" growing among the public.
Mars will be in Aquarius until its June
18th shift into Pisces. These aspects put energy into religious
movements, and there is some risk of violent behavior linked
to religious ideals. This may put strains on the allied forces
in the Middle East as they struggle to enforce new paradigms
on that region of the world. Although the situation in the
Middle East will remain unstable, there is a push to be finished,
and politicians will feel greater public pressure to address
the nation's problems.
The first two-thirds of June are good
for gold and energy-based stocks. Caution is still called
for since the stock market will remain on a roller coaster.
Extra caution should be used in July when a Jupiter-Neptune
opposition will affect stocks. Jupiter remains in Leo, aiding
the economy. The arts will continue to flourish and the crop
of summer movies will bring some major blockbusters with more
than the usual number of people seeking the escape of entertainment.
An additional aid to the struggling economy
is Chiron's placement in Capricorn. Unfortunately, since it's
still retrograde, its effect will only be moderate until the
fall.
On June 11th, Venus moves from Taurus
to Gemini, then it moves again on July 5th to Cancer. This
is a very changeable period for personal relationships. Combined
with the Mars placement, you could find yourself in very unique
relationships with new levels of communication. Don't make
long-term commitments until after July 5th when things become
clearer.
Uranus is still in the early stages of
Pisces and on June 7th, it turns retrograde. This brings about
a phase of self-reflection. Inner balance and well-being become
a major concern. Self-motivation is important, and this is
a good summer to start a new physical training program or
enter a deeper phase of your meditative practice. The concept
of mind, body and spirit reaches a deeper level of meaning.
Neptune remains retrograde in Aquarius,
and Pluto is still retrograde in Sagittarius. This is a bit
of a holding pattern for these two outer planets.
Bring old issues to a conclusion so they
no longer hold you back. This is the time to shift from the
dreaming phase to an active, energized mode. Time to discover
tangible ways to manifest those dreams; if not, there is the
danger of remaining lost in fantasies of what might have been.
The shift of these energies is a part
of the shift in consciousness connected to the Aquarian age.
This will call many to question old paradigms, especially
those in the political arena. Shifts in power are likely to
begin during the summer, and we may see changes in government
policies. On the international scene, work towards peace is
more likely.
A heavy emphasis on community and the
connection of all living creatures will change the outlook
of many people. Traditions that highlight inner focus and
carry a vibration of peace gain greater attention.
New concepts are introduced to help the
large numbers of workers hurt by the economic difficulties
the nation has faced. Barter systems regain popularity as
smaller communities ban together for mutual benefit. The return
to core values continues, and Mom, baseball and apple pie
are important again. As a result, the religious right and
other conservative groups will see a rise in membership. As
a universal balance, traditions such as Buddhism will also
experience growth as new feelings of compassion and connectedness
grow.
This is a summer for both active energy
and inner focus. Consider what you are creating in your life
and your community. Don't hesitate to reach out to those around
you; we are on a path of healing on a global scale. The more
who join, the greater the power of the vibration, the stronger
the energy of peace. Together, we can reach around the world.
