Many people are aware of the general qualities
of the astrological sun signs - hard-working Capricorn, gregarious
Leo, the home-loving Cancerian.
Of course, these are oversimplifications and only a
small part of the wisdom of astrology, but it is safe to say
that most people have had at least some exposure to these
characterizations.
In my last column, I explained how to calculate
the numerology of your date of birth to a number between 1
and 22, corresponding to the 22 "trump" cards of the Major
Arcana in the Tarot.
This is how you begin to discover your Tarot profile
the way that our numerological birth number identifies us
with particular cards in the Tarot system.
These, like astrological knowledge, can help illuminate
our life's challenges and gifts.
Each card of the Major Arcana represents
a step on the road of life's lessons.
The art and symbolism are specifically designed to
portray the universal truths of human experience.
As mentioned previously, the sequence of the Major
Arcana cards is often known as The Fool's Journey.
In this article, we'll begin a closer examination
of how birthdate numbers relate to the Major Arcana and learn
more about the deep truths they teach.
The Fool's Journey begins and ends, naturally
enough, with The Fool.
The number zero, and the number 22, are assigned to
The Fool. So,
if your birthday numerology reduces to 22 (no one's will reduce
to zero), The Fool is one of your lifetime teachers.
First let me emphasize that Fool people
are certainly not foolish or even foolhardy.
The fool is associated with personality traits such
as spontaneity, playfulness, risk-taking and trust.
Those that are developing their Fool aspect are very
creative, adventurous, and work hard to transcend any fears
they encounter by taking positive action. The challenge of their lifetime is to nurture the courage to
be who they truly are, without pretense.
To the cynical outsider, those that dare
to follow their dreams may look foolish.
But to reach out and honor the creative impulse is
the beginning of wisdom.
Julia Cameron's wonderful message in her classic book,
"The Artist's Way," is to "Leap and the net will appear."
If there was ever a motto for The Fool, this is it!
There are many famous people who have The
Fool as a part of their Tarot personality profile.
These groundbreakers include Sigmund Freud, Butch Cassidy,
Paul McCartney, Woody Allen, Mark Twain, Haile Selassie, Harriet
Beecher Stowe, Ben Franklin, and Leonardo da Vinci.
While The Fool represents potential and
the shifting possibilities of the unconscious, the next card
represents potential made manifest, by focused will and awareness.
The Magician is card number One of the Tarot Major
Arcana.
No one has had the number 1 by itself since
Jan. 1, 998 C.E., and no one will for another seven thousand
years or so. But
if your numerology reduces to 19 or 10, The Magician is your
guide and offers great insight into your personality.
The Magician's lessons have to do with the
ability to innovate, to create and to use the will in order
to make things happen.
Magician people are often extraordinarily gifted communicators,
and have the ability to be a channel for the manifestation
of Divine will. They
are innovators, leaders, teachers, and healers.
If you have the Magician in your Tarot profile, you
can be extremely focused, and you need to take care not to
be impatient with others.
Not everyone identifies so personally with their work
the way that Magicians do, and this may make you especially
vulnerable to criticism.
You have the ability, however, to transform the ordinary
into the sublime, and if you make sure you do not scatter
your considerable energies, you may well find yourself in
the esteemed company of others with our profile, such as George
Washington, Sir Isaac Newton, Walt Whitman, Florence Nightingale,
Susan B. Anthony, Ernest Hemingway, Napoleon, Carl Sagan,
Janis Joplin and many others.
The next step of the journey takes us to
The High Priestess.
After a gap of 900 years, people whose birthdates reduce
straight to 2 (without first reducing to 11 or 20) began being
born on December 31, 1957.
But on January 1, 1998, this brief cycle ended, and
will not return again for almost 8,000 years.
Is it simply an extraordinary coincidence
that the reawakening of Goddess worship in the Western cultures,
the increased honor of the feminine even in traditionally
male-dominated religions, and the rebirth of the concept of
women's equality have occurred during this generation?
The return to our planet of people whose birth reduces
to 2 is a gift that may well hold the key to whether we are
able to re-evaluate our relationship with one another and
our Mother Earth before we destroy ourselves.
For The High Priestess suggests the idea
of a choice. While
the Magician's energy has to do with the importance of the
individual's consciousness and focused will, the High Priestess
has to do with balance, duality, inner truth, intuition, and
honoring the power of the sacred Feminine.
Whether your birthdate reduces to 2, 11,
or 20, if you have the High Priestess in your profile, you
are independent, self-sufficient and are psychically gifted.
High Priestess people require solitude, although you
are often in demand for your profound wisdom and insight.
You are always aware of the rhythms around you -adapting
and accepting the constant change of circumstances, the ebb
and flow of energies and the subtle undercurrents of relationships
and moods.
Some renowned High Priestess profiles include
Lord Byron, A.A. Milne, John Glenn, Jules Verne, Wolfgang
Mozart, Edgar Allen Poe, Maya Angelou, Paul Simon, Jackie
Onassis, Bob Hope, and Frank Lloyd Wright.
While the High Priestess represents one
aspect of feminine power - dark, mysterious and intuitive-the
next card, The Empress, is more familiar and comforting.
Be sure to visit again in the coming months, when we'll
look more closely at the Empress aspect in the Tarot profile,
as well as several more steps along the Fool's Journey. |
