Reawakening Compassion

Editor's note: The astrological update that appeared in the April/May 2004 issue of the print version of Innerchange magazine was not the correct update. We inadvertently and unintentionally reprinted last year's column. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. For those who would like to reflect on the astrological influences of April/May 2004, the correct update was published online and is available here.

Over the past several years we have faced trials, challenges, traumas, and scattered beliefs that have created a fog of confusion in the consciousness of many people. Fortunately, amidst this confusion, many have turned their journey towards one of spiritual exploration. During June and July, we will emerge from this fog with a new awareness of the world and the people who are affected by our individual decisions. Planetary movements will promote the birth of new levels of compassion toward our fellow beings. We can now work towards bringing about a balance that has not been seen on the Earth since ages long past.

Venus plays a major role in the events of the summer. In a rare event that only repeats every 113 to 130 years, Venus will eclipse the Sun on June 7 of this year. This celestial occurrence is one of a pair of such transits with the second eclipse happening on June 6, 2012 .

Venus is the planet of love, relationships, and creative energy. This transit will offer a key to emotional understanding unlike any we have experienced in a long time. Emotional revelations, revolutions, and release are experienced during such transits, and we are all called to "clean out the closets." There is an urge within each of us to come into balance and to recognize the incredible possibilities that exist. Here is a true opportunity to bring the divine feminine into balance with the divine male energy. Venus, as the sacred feminine, will cast its reflection over the world and the consciousness of the people on a large scale. Artistic and creative energies rush to the surface, awakening the desire to explore music and the arts. The summer brings a period of creativity and healing, and it offers a deep level of genuine communication. Although there will still be factions pushing military actions, there is now a greater possibility of diplomatic success in the world's troubled areas.

As June begins, Mars will be in the sign of Cancer, and we may experience a tense period until the 24th when the planet moves into Leo. Mars rules Leo, which is a good placement for the energetic planet. Social activity is highlighted. This is an excellent time to meet new people and make new business connections. Put extra energy into creative projects and physical exercise. This is a perfect time to start new workout practices or physical training regimens.

Jupiter, moving through Virgo, will offer some relief to the nation's economic worries. It is important to find time for enjoyment in the early summer months even though finances will be a bit tighter for most. As we enter July, money flows a little easier, and there will be a more relaxed feeling as vacation season goes into full swing.

Although the U.S. has had more than enough of Saturn's placement in Cancer, the transit continues. Domestic issues will continue to gather more and more attention has the Fall election draws near. There is little doubt that this planet's movement through the United State 's natal sun sign is bringing about a slow but very defined change in the nature of the country. Jobs, health care, and the state of the economy and environment will be the hot topics of the summer. Few solutions for these problems will seem to make sense in the months of June and July. An increasing desire from the public, however, will force leaders to offer alternatives. On a personal level, Saturn brings the desire to transform and the need to move forward with the course of your life. It is more empowering at this time to go with the flow rather than trying to resist the energy coming toward you.

Neptune is retrograde in Aquarius, and Pluto is moving backwards in Sagittarius. On June 10, Uranus turns retrograde in Pisces. This will put all three outer planets moving backwards for the summer, a condition that will continue through August. Along with the Venus transit, this grouping will have a dynamic effect on the world's consciousness. Intense feelings of "personal revolution" will emerge, and dramatic life changes are likely at this time. Career changes will blend with a burst of creative energy, and many people will feel the urge to relocate.

On a broader scale, earth changes are very possible during this timeframe. Focus light around California , since it is prime now for a large-scale earthquake. We will see dynamic changes in Africa and the Middle East where political and social upheavals will begin to occur.

We all know that our world has changed dramatically over the past several years. As we emerge from this change it is vital that we all find the divine balance in our lives, for each of us is a part of the whole. Our individual balance is a reflection on the greater world around us. If we are truly seeking world peace, then we should each strive to create it in our immediate environment. In so doing, it will radiate out and create ever-widening circles that vibrate with the power of peace, love and compassion.
