The Time of the Phoenix

With the anniversary of the terrorist attacks on our country, we have come to another turning point. The big question is where do we go from here? Although the attacks transformed our country, our true test of fire lies in the choices we still have to make. This period will determine what lies in store for us as a nation and a people. Planetary aspects now are fiery with an aggressive edge. We can choose to give in to this energy and embroil ourselves deeper in struggle, or we can use the creative fire to emerge, like the phoenix, reborn and risen from the ashes.

Venus will be in Libra until the 9th of September when it moves into Scorpio. This will be a time of slow development for current relationships. It is a time to get to know each other on a deeper, more spiritual level. There is a note of caution since a Venus/Jupiter square awakens buried issues that need to be dealt with. Jealousies could flare, so use care when communicating with loved ones. A Venus/Uranus trine could bring some surprising relationship opportunities later in the month. This is also a period to be open to new ideas and explorations. Be cautious with love issues in September. Relationships now will be centered on simplicity and honesty. Superficial foundations will fall away.

Mars in Leo during the month of August will produce creative energy. Explore artistic talents and bring them into the open. On the 30th of August, Mars enters Virgo. This lends energy to the medical field and advances in surgical techniques. There is a focus on minute details and high standards. This can produce a self critical attitude that is focused on perfection. Mars aspects will also be reflected in our military as it struggles with structural changes and the realities of the unconventional war that the country is involved in. The last half of August can be volatile for both individuals and groups. Planetary aspects make this a difficult time for foreign powers to negotiate. Unfortunately, we will see high tensions in the Middle East during these months, especially in Israel where continued attacks are likely. The United States has strong ties with Israel. Along with our president having strong Leo aspects in his chart, these factors indicate another phase of our involvement with Israel's terrorist problem. We may again hear more about the "Axis of Evil" and see another step in the war against terror.

Jupiter enters Leo August 2nd. This aspect brings about a sense of drama and a playful, fun attitude. It does have a more serious side, since Leo energy desires recognition and attention. A Jupiter/Neptune opposition in this time can cause "psychic static," so some may find meditation difficult. There is great temptation to put things off and worry about them later. It is important to have as many people focused on peace and calming vibrations has possible, especially in the month of August. Look for the stock market to remain in an unstable state, as the trend away from "luxury" items continues. People continue to return to the basics of living. Real estate is still a solid investment though it will slow slightly during these months. Saturn aspects during this time will push changes forward with regard to buildings and structures. We can expect some transformations in architectural styles to begin taking shape. Chiron, the "wounded healer," is in Capricorn. This is linked to the healing of our economy and the journey into new forms of commerce and standards of living. Many people are finding that the best way to heal and move forward is to actually live in more simple ways. A continuing trend towards "country living" will continue through the rest of this year.

Saturn in Gemini during this time may not bode well for political leaders. This aspect represents the "Double faced lord of order." People may begin doubting the veracity of their leaders. Scandals are highly possible, and there are stirrings of general discontent among the people. Doubts will arise regarding the continuing war against terrorism. Saturn aspects are linked to our struggle with the negative aspects of Islamic fundamentalism. In this time of angry energy, it is important to remember that Islam itself is a peaceful religion despite how a small, select few choose to interpret it.

Uranus and Neptune are both retrograde in Aquarius during these two months. Neptune is linked to psychic energy but can also be about illusion and denial. It is important not to lose touch with the reality of the physical world. Those awaiting the dawning of the Aquarian Age could easily get lost in dreams of Shangri La. We must all stay consciousness during this time and continue the work that needs to be done. The fulfillment of the New Age is a process, and we must all continue on path to bring the dream to reality. Neptune in Aquarius blurs the lines between science and the mystical. This produces a continuing trend in "modernizing" ancient spiritual traditions. Technologies such as the Internet are bringing together people with mystical inclinations in ways never dreamed of a few years ago.

This is a risk period for issues involving nuclear power. Iraq and Iran are major stress points as well as India and Pakistan. Uranus brings surprising events, and both the Sun and Mars will oppose it in August. We should all focus peaceful energy towards these areas. Problems relating to energy and power sources could arise, and we may hear more about EMF fields as health issues become more solidly linked to them.

Pluto goes direct on the 26th of August. This planet has been retrograde since March and is in Sagittarius. Pluto is the underworld and, in the sign of Sagittarius, the emphasis is on philosophies and beliefs. Religious fanatics thrive from this energy and are able to exert high levels of influence. Pluto was a major factor in last year's terrorist attacks and in the transformation we have undergone. It is also symbolic of the power of resurrection- surviving the journey through Pluto's underworld brings about a new level of empowerment. This is a period to explore the vastness of life and to create grand visions for the future.

A final note-last year's 911 attack occurred during a Gemini moon. Gemini (the twins) is an air sign (air attack). On the anniversary of the attacks, the moon will be in Scorpio. Scorpio is a water sign and is connected to hidden matters. Security will be high. However, we should all be cautious about issues relating to water and shipping.

We must each remember that the fiery energy so active now can be destructive and harmful. But, like the proverbial other side of a coin, it can also be creative and purifying. We have already journeyed through the underworld and emerged. Let us each focus our power into the ways of peace and forge a shorter path to the Aquarian age.
