Why You Should Put This Movie in Your Collection

If you are a professional astrologer, a serious student, a curious individual, or an open-minded skeptic, then this documentary is a must have. Kelly Lee Phipps has made what will hopefully be the first of many films about the depth and breadth of astrological practice that is surging throughout the world. The film contains interviews from the top astrologers in the field—Steven Forrest, Robert Blaschke, Rick Levine, Robert Hand, Richard Tarnas—as well as many bright, thoughtful new talents emerging into the profession.

The film has essentially two layers, one involving a plot of a young woman in the midst of a break up who eventually finds her way to an astrologer (Kelly himself) for consultation and the second dividing the interviews into sections about Astrology & Science, Astrology and Religion, What is Astrology?, and Astrology and History. The content is simply astounding.

Technically, the film does reflect a first time director's effort and a limited budget, but it also reflects his PASSION. The editing is jagged in some sections and some interviews are hard to hear because the people interviewed are in rooms that distort their voices. It was not difficult for me, as a reviewer, to set these limitations aside in the magnificent onslaught of professional voices, passionate in their own right, recognizing this great opportunity to share their knowledge and insight. If there is such a thing as "passion amplified"; this film has it.

Documentary film making is a fantastic gift for viewers and Return of the Magi is truly a present worth unwrapping!
