I was born in Oakland, California in 1951. After receiving a degree in art history from the University of California, I began to study ceramics. In 1978 I attended Harrow College of Art and Technology, England in production pottery. Following my return to California I began making ceramic pieces for sale in galleries as well as major department stores. In 1982 I began production of a line of silk-screened decorative tile for bathrooms and kitchens for national distribution.
In 1996 I sold my business and moved to the Netherlands with my family. While living in the Netherlands my connection with the icons began to emerge. I studied briefly with Dutch iconographer Simon Koopman, before beginning to express my own interpretation of icons.
In 2002 my family and I returned to the Pacific Northwest where I further developed my icon collection as images on copper jewelry. I sell this collection under the name “Ambrozijn” meaning “nectar of the gods” in Dutch. For the past two years I have participated as a jeweler in a number of juried craft shows, including “The Best of the Northwest”. I also wholesale my icon jewelry to museum, religious, and new age gift stores.
I have continued to work on my bas-relief icons, focusing on painting those mystics to whom I am most drawn. Most recently I have been inspired to make a series of icons focused on Mary Magdalene. Also I am pleased to have been awarded “best of show” for 2005 in the “Ministry and Liturgy” Visual Arts Award for Sacred Art with a selection of my icons.
When I have a free moment I love playing the button accordion and taking walks through the woods to the beach near my home.
