10 Major Astrological Events in 2006
Astrology by David Weatherly
December 2005 - January 2006
Each year is filled with astrological events and "aspects" or planetary interactions. These stellar occurrences have an influence on our daily lives and on international events and trends. Each year is of unique depending on the positions of the planets.
Listed below are ten major astrological events that will affect us all in 2006. I have selected ten aspects or events that I believe will have an overall effect both on a personal level as well as on a much broader scale. Hopefully, this will provide some insight into the coming year.
Year of the Rooster Ends
This is an important one, and it's early in the year. The Chinese year of the Rooster began February 9, 2005 and will end on the 28th of January 2006 The year of the Rooster brought in many challenges and restrictions, especially in the United States. Even many of those born in Rooster years experienced difficulties. This Rooster year carried a strong focus on governmental control. Rules and regulations dominated much of 2005. If you have felt restricted over the past year you can breathe a sigh of relief and celebrate the end of this animal's reign.
Chinese New Year/Year of the Dog
January 29th brings the Chinese New Year for 2006. This will be the year of the Dog. This will be a year of strong creative energies, spiritual expression, passion and dynamic growth. Obstacles can be overcome this year if you focus your willpower properly. This Dog year will cause many to look at the restrictions of the past year and take steps to exercise more personal freedom.
Mercury Retrogrades
Mercury retrogrades three times this year: March 2nd through March 24th, July 4th through July 28th, and again October 28th through the 17th of November. Plan accordingly, Mercury retrogrades cause difficulties in communications and can also disrupt travel plans. It is unwise to sign legal documents or agreements under Mercury retrograde so if possible, adjust such plans around these dates.
Jupiter Moves into Sagittarius
Jupiter is the only "major" planet to move into a different sign during 2006. After spending most of the year in Scorpio Jupiter will move into Sagittarius on the 25th of November. This will make for a strong holiday season with a lot of travel. Sports will also take a front seat in the winter months since they are ruled by Sagittarius. On a personal level, this will be a good time for long distance travel and spiritual journeys.
March 29 Eclipse in Aries
There are two eclipses this year. The first, on the 29th of March, is in Aries. Aries is the first sign of the zodiac and it rules the head. This will bring a singular focus into your life for a time. If you already know where Aries is in your chart, pay attention since this will be the area of focus. The energy from an eclipse can be active 90 days before and after the actual eclipse, so pay attention - this is an event with deep implications.
September 22 Eclipse in Virgo/Libra
The second eclipse occurs on the 22nd of September and is a bit complicated. The sun and the moon will both be at 29 degrees of Virgo. This is the last degree of the sign, so effectively the eclipse will be effecting the following sign, Libra. Expect communication issues to be at the forefront during this eclipse. Be conscious at work or you may find yourself in the midst of a power struggle. Remember that how you react to the dynamic energies around you is your choice. This can be a period of the emotional clashing with the logical. Strive to keep your inner communication clear and balanced.
Mars Opposes Pluto
Mars will oppose the planet Pluto in 2006. This is a powerful opposition from two intense planets. Mars and Pluto both have an influence on war and conflict and this opposition only agitates these aspects. We could see more intense conflict this year on the international scene. On a personal level, this opposition will create more energy among the anti-war community. The theme of "power to the people" could easily recur under this planetary opposition.
Neptune Saturn Opposition
Neptune and Saturn also oppose each other in 2006. Neptune relates to the psychic realm and does not blend well with practical centered Saturn. While Saturn is restrictive, Neptune is a free spirited energy that likes to explore. While in opposition to each other, they may cause some headaches as we try to compensate for the differences. This may at times feel like a replay of last year's restrictive energies but (thankfully) not as intense. Pay attention to your dreams and focus on pulling them into your reality.
Grand Trine in Fire
Essentially, this is an alignment of planets in fire signs. This includes Saturn in Leo, Pluto in Sagittarius and the Sun during the solar eclipse in Aries. Trines are positive aspects and you can expect a good burst of fiery energy and drive as a result of this grand trine. This is a time to utilize your positive energies and pull on the extra "power" that you need to accomplish your goals.
Jupiter Neptune Squares
These occur on the 28th of January, 16th of March, and the 24th of September. Squares are blocks or challenges. Jupiter is expansive but in a square with Neptune it can create a lot of "psychic static." If you work in the alternative healing arena, be aware that the body may react in an extreme fashion during this time. Those receiving healing may absorb very quickly or one the opposite extreme, they may actually reject healing vibrations.
