Seven Pearls for Spiritual Healing

In Spiritual Wisdom on Health and Healing, Harold Klemp, the spiritual leader of Eckankar, tells the story of a woman who wrote to him about her chronic insomnia. She had expended considerable time and money on specialists, but still was no nearer to finding the restful sleep she sought. By looking at her Soul records, Harold was able to pinpoint her insomnia to a past life experience in ancient Atlantis.

Harold explained that although they were a highly advanced people scientifically, the Atlanteans were nevertheless an emotionally undeveloped society – lacking in compassion and humanity. Towards its decline as a civilization, Atlantis carried out a policy of euthanasia against patients who were old, sickly or malformed. As a common laborer in her Atlantean life, this woman had a bent and misshapen back. When she fell sick one day in the fields, the authorities decided her usefulness had ended and scheduled her for “eternal sleep.”

Harold explained to her, “The medical people treated you like an object without feelings, speaking clinically – without grace – about the removal of your body and belongings the morning after. You were terrified of what amounted to a death sentence, and this fear is the reason for your fear of sleep. While you have suffered from insomnia for a long time, it’s gotten worse as you approach a condition of aging similar to the one in Atlantis. The aging is the trigger.”

Harold recommended that she volunteer to work with emotionally disturbed children “so you can come to terms with the emotionally bankrupt Atlanteans who caused you so much trouble in the past. You must find a way to give your love to little ones. You now see yourself as the center of your world; you must make others the object of your love, which must pour out from you. It must become unlocked and flow out from you.”

Spiritual Pearl # 1:
Love and service to others are the healing balm of life.

In Stories to Help You See God in Your Life, Harold writes about a woman who found the solution to a medical problem through a dream. She had gone to a medical specialist, who prescribed two standard drugs that worked for other patients with the same condition, but failed to help her. One night in a dream, she saw the letters O-R-N-A-D-E flash across a black screen, each in a different color.

The next morning she called her pharmacists and asked him if there was a drug called Ornade. Surprisingly, she learned there was, but it mainly helped with congestion – not her medical problem. Still confident in the power of dreams to give advice, guidance and direction in life, she scheduled another visit with her doctor a few days later and related to him her dream experience with Ornade.

The doctor told her the same thing as the pharmacists: Ornade would not work for her condition. Undeterred, she wanted to try the drug anyway. Believing that Ornade would neither help nor harm her, the doctor wrote out a prescription to humor her. You can guess the outcome. The drug worked, where other treatments had failed.

Harold explains that important dream messages can come to us clearly at times, like a sign. Other times they come in symbols or fragments. We can use contemplative techniques or spiritual exercises – such as playing back the dream, filling in the missing parts or interpreting the symbolism – to help clear out the distortions from our dreams or inner experiences. “The Spiritual Exercises of ECK help clear out the distortions from your dreams and inner experiences,” Harold writes. “They allow you to see through the curtain to bring healing to yourself.”

Spiritual Pearl #2:
Dreams and contemplation can help us find healing.

In Spiritual Wisdom on Health and Healing, Harold tells how one woman found healing through a change in consciousness. Lydia had a sudden and unexplainable onset of severe stomach pain and headaches. “Only after the pain became almost too great to bear did she realize the tie-in with a karmic condition caused by a certain attitude she had developed years ago.” Lydia’s realization that her migraines were of her own making came to her in contemplation.

When Lydia was a child, her mother suffered from severe migraines. To cope with her pain, her mother became addicted to drugs. Lydia resented her mother from childhood for her mother’s weakness. Karma is the principle that what goes around comes around. When we judge or condemn others without love or compassion, Divine Spirit will place us in the same circumstances to experience walking in another’s shoes. Such a karmic attitude was at the root of Lydia’s migraines.

Contemplation “gave Lydia the strength of Soul to understand and, more importantly, to accept the reason for her pain,” Harold writes. “She could now look at herself honestly and admit that she had formed a negative attitude simply because she didn’t understand the severity of her mother’s pain; she had lacked the experience by which to gauge it.” As you might expect, from this point forward, Lydia’s migraines began to subside, until they ceased.

Spiritual Pearl #3:
A change of attitude can initiate healing.

In a previous article, “The Golden Thread,” I wrote about my own experiences with the Light and Sound of God, which is the Holy Spirit or ECK. This ECK Current, which is audible and visible, is the creative energy emanating from God. The Sound is God’s Voice calling all Souls back home. The Light is a beacon that lights up the way. We can see, hear and feel this musical and luminous wave as God’s eternal love and presence, which envelops us constantly.

These inner sounds can be described as bees swarming, musical tones, such as a single pitched flute, strings, woodwinds in combination, the ocean roaring, thunder, bells tinkling, electricity humming or wind. The Light can appear in varying colors, shades and intensities, such as green, pink, orange, blue, yellow, gold and clear, bright white.

In Spiritual Wisdom on Health and Healing, Harold explains how we can use both the Orange Light and Blue Light of God for healing. However, he cautions, “some people are successful in this kind of healing, and others are better off seeing a doctor.” Divine Spirit can heal us in infinite ways, be they traditional, alternative or otherwise. What works for one may not work for another. Healing, when it occurs, depends on our specific needs and state of consciousness.

Harold gives a spiritual exercise where we use the power of our imagination “which is the God Force or the seeing power of Soul.” In contemplation, we visualize the Audible Life Stream – the pure White Light of God, which is the composite of all colors. “Now visualize a ray coming off of it. It is very much like using a prism to see the spectrum of colors.

“The ray you see is the Orange Light, which applies to the physical health. With your eyes closed, visualize this orange stream coming through you. Just let it flow to the area of your body that is diseased, afflicted, or injured. You can do this for 20 minutes.”

The Blue Light works more on our inner bodies – the Astral, Causal, Mental and Etheric. Again, close your eyes and “visualize the Blue Light coming into the heart center. This blue light is known as the Blue Light of the Mahanta Consciousness. The Mahanta Consciousness is the highest state of consciousness known to man … Let this healing light of God come in and work on the area you feel needs help. Or just let it flow into the Spiritual Eye (the area above and between the eyebrows). As it washes and cleanses the impurities, the Blue Light will start to uplift you from the materialism and karma that you have created for yourself through ignorance of God’s laws.”

Spiritual Pearl #4:
We can use the Light of God for spiritual healing.

In his book, The Spiritual Exercises of ECK, Harold gives another spiritual exercise using the Sound of God for healing. Go into spiritual contemplation and ask your guide or a master you have an affinity with to take you to the Sound Room in a Temple of Golden Wisdom for a sound healing. These Temples of Golden Wisdom exist throughout the many worlds of God beyond our physical world and are places of healing and learning that we can visit in our dreams or through Soul Travel during contemplation.

Visualize yourself climbing on a big stone table in the center of the Sound Room. As you lay there, the different sounds of the Holy Spirit described above “begin massaging your inner bodies. This relaxes you, and the transformation begins.” Harold explains, “After awhile, you feel the Sound Current raise you off the table toward the ceiling. You pass through an opening into higher states, where the Sound Current is more refined.

“When the healing occurs, it brings balance to the inner bodies. It may take some time to filter to the physical, and your life tomorrow may not be easier than it was today. But at least now you know about the Sound Room at the Temple of Golden Wisdom and can ask to go there whenever you need to.”

Spiritual Pearl #5:
We can use the Sound of God for spiritual healing.

So what exactly, is spiritual healing – as opposed to physical, psychic or other forms of healing? Spiritual healing deals with the root cause of disease or poor health, which could be the effect of a past life, a present attitude or our ignorance of physical or spiritual laws. “Spiritual healing teaches us something about ourselves,” Harold writes in Spiritual Wisdom on Health and Healing. Spiritual healing forces us to take responsibility for our health problems and for our thoughts and actions that created our illness or health problem.

“As karma surfaces, it works out through the weakest point in the body. As quickly as we can release our attachment to whatever is hurting us, we allow the karma to pass off quickly, and our health stays balanced,” In Spiritual Wisdom on Health and Healing, Harold states,“The key is to stay in tune with Divine Spirit.” Through spiritual exercises like those given above, “you can be aware of the hints and nudges and whisperings of the Holy Spirit as It tries to guide you to the next step to take at any given point.”

Spiritual Pearl #6:
By tuning within, we can hear the Voice of God guiding us to the next step.

Spiritual healing brings about a change in our consciousness. All healing ultimately comes through Divine Spirit – from God, which requires that we establish a right relationship with God through prayer or contemplation. A powerful way I have learned to connect with this Light and Sound of God is by chanting or singing the word HU (hue, Hugh) as a love song to God. HU is an ancient name for God, and is the sound within all sounds.

Harold writes in Spiritual Wisdom on Health and Healing, “Anytime you sing HU as a love offering to the Lord of creation, your heart fills with the Light and Sound of God. They are the twin aspects of ECK, the Holy Spirit. HU, the name of God, brings us in a holy alliance with the Light and Sound, the Word of God. Should the worlds tremble and all else fails, HU carries us into the ocean of God’s love and mercy.”

Spiritual Pearl #7:
By keeping our hearts open to Divine Love, we travel full circle to Spiritual Pearl #1 - love and service are the healing balm of life.
