The Year of Fire Dog
The New Moon of January 29th this year begins the Chinese year of Fire Dog, a very dynamic year whose watchwords are Circumspection, Caution and Practicality. It is a year to take care of nourishment, to pay attention to the needs of others as well as to your own, to be centered in your emotions, balanced in all things, and productive and down to earth.
The energy of Fire Dog, when handled correctly, brings the highest success; when handled incorrectly brings bad luck. The dangers of Fire Dog are to go to extremes in ambition, to become severely aggressive and intolerant and to be hounded by anxieties. The fearful spirit that haunts the nation bodes ill. Superior people know intuitively how to be successful. Those who are deceitful and use power to oppress others are courting misfortune. Officials in high places of government and business will regret their insufficient talents. Those who act greedily and are narrow minded will encounter losses. Those who are cocksure about their invincibility are doomed to defeat. Blind ambition is like the bird's nest that catches fire. Power that reaches its extreme turns into its opposite.
There is a possibility of an event of unanticipated violence coming into the world in the earlier part of this year. The symbols that describe this are of a flood and of the large number being overwhelmed by the small number of the enemy. Insufficient talent results in conditions that resemble an army carrying corpses in the wagons because the general was too stupid to know when it was time to change the course.
You might also reflect on how this relates to you as an individual. To be inflexible this year spells trouble. You may want to check to see whether your loyalties are to the wrong people. Are you getting blamed unjustly? Pursue good fortune and avoid the course of calamity.
High officials in government and business who are not overly selfish and who strive to work in harmony with others will succeed this year. The successful will see riches coming in a seemingly endless flow. This is a good year to form partnerships with friends and like-minded people. And it is wise to be realistic. Exercise due caution and strive for proper balance in all things. Maintain high standards and persist in the good. Uncertain helpers gradually join together. Those who come too late lose out. The year is favorable for creative partnerships and marriage.
The star of destruction is in the West this year and the star of sickness is in the Southeast. If your door faces out to the West or the Southeast, affix a Bagua mirror above the door outside facing out. The Bagua mirror is a traditional device used to ward off undesirable influences.
